Arriving by bicycle or hiking to us?
Great Allegheny Passage Trail users, go to www.gaptrail.org for trail info, updates, and closures.
It may appear on a map of the area that there is access to High Street from the GAP Trail. This is NOT the case.
The hill leading to Red Lantern B&B, Center Street, is steep and can be a bit daunting, especially after a long bike ride or long day of hiking.
The Center Street hill can also be challenging for some trail users when returning back to the Trail.
Google Maps will most likely send you to us via Center Street.
There is a less steep alternate route, with a less steep grade.
To avoid the steep hill, use the LESS STEEP directions below.

Not all streets have street signs. Not all streets will be marked.
Not all streets have street signs. Light Street is an example of a street that does NOT have a sign. It may NOT be marked by a street sign, on one or both ends of the street.
LESS STEEP directions from Trail Head to Red Lantern Bed & Breakfast-
-Turn on to Main Street from the Trail Head, a Right coming from Pittsburgh, a Left coming from Cumberland, DOWN the hill.
-Continue on Main Street to Light Street, by the train tracks.
-Light Street may NOT have a street sign on one or both ends of the street.
-Make a Right onto Light Street at the train tracks.
-Continue on Light Street until the intersection with High Street. For reference, at the T-intersection of Light and High Streets, Summit Street will be across the road and in front of you, at the guardrails. DO NOT take Summit Street. This is just for location reference.
-One or both ends of Light Street may NOT have a street sign.
-At the intersection, make a Left onto High Street. You will be going DOWN the hill on High Street.
-Continue on High Street to the wooden bridge. This bridge passes over an active railway.
-Cross the wooden bridge. The bridge currently has yellow caution tape blocking one walkway, awaiting repairs. Use the roadway instead of that walkway if using that side, with caution.
-Red Lantern B&B will be the first house on the right, directly after crossing the wooden bridge, and has brown Ansel brick siding.
-Red Lantern B&B is the brown house, on the right, directly after crossing the wooden bridge.
- If you pass SS Phillip and James Catholic Church, you have gone too far.
-There is a sign on the front porch of Red Lantern Bed & Breakfast, red house numbers on the porch (301), a red lantern hanging by the sidewalk, and a big maple tree out front.

LESS STEEP directions from Red Lantern B&B to Trail Head-
-Make a left out of the driveway onto High Street. RLB&B is on High Street.
-Cross the wooden bridge. This bridge passes over an active railway. The bridge currently has yellow caution tape blocking one walkway, awaiting repairs. Use the roadway instead of that walkway if using that side of the road, with caution.
-Continue on High Street to Light Street. You will be going UP the hill.
-Light Street is the second street to the right from RLB&B.
-Light Street will be on the right and has no street sign.
For reference, Summit Street is marked and is across the street, from Light Street, at the guardrails. DO NOT take Summit Street. This is just for location reference.
-Make a Right onto Light Street.
-Continue on Light Street to Main Street.
-One or both ends of Light Street may NOT have a street sign.
-Make a left before the railroad tracks onto Main Street.
-Continue on Main Street. UP the hill.
-The Trail Head is at the top of the hill.
-Make sure to stop into the Trail Head, during business hours, check it out, and sign the guest book!
Simple route from Trail Head to Red Lantern Bed & Breakfast-
-From the Trail Head, turn onto Main Street. You will be going down the hill.
-Continue down the hill on Main Street.
-Stay on Main Street until the intersection with Center Street, at the red light. (There is only one in town.) The library will be on your right.
-Turn right onto Center Street from Main Street.
-Continue up the hill on Center Street. You will be going uphill.
-At the stop sign at the intersection of Center and High Street, stay straight.
-Continue straight to Red Lantern Bed & Breakfast. The driveway is directly ahead of Center Street, next to RLB&B.
-SS Phillip and James Catholic Church is next door to the B&B.
-RLB&B is a brown Ansel Brick house.
-There is a sign on the front porch of Red Lantern Bed & Breakfast, red house numbers on the porch (301), and a red lantern hanging by the sidewalk, and a big maple tree out front.
When you arrive, roll back the driveway. There is roof covered bike parking, just past the patio. The bike parking area has outlets for charging e-bikes and other devices and tons of bicycle related amenities. There is 24-hour motion activated surveillance in the bike parking area.

It may appear on a map that there is access from High Street to The GAP Trail.
